The Dirty Little Secret

Mr. MacKinski had a dirty little secret. He had kept this to himself for many years and he was not about to share it with anyone. Alfred MacKinski lived alone, never had a girlfriend- or any kind of a friend for that matter, and since his mother died 20 years ago had no living relatives. He didn’t own a pet (he thought dogs as too dirty, cats too annoying, and fish too much work) and tried to avoid them, especially dogs, wherever possible on his daily route. You see Alfred Mackinski was a postal delivery person.

He hated that title, “postal delivery person”. He preferred to refer to himself as a “mailman” but it wasn’t “p.c.”. He also didn’t appreciate people making “going postal” jokes for he never thought of himself as a violent person and could not imagine how anyone could ever harm another human being. Anyone ever coming across Mr. Mackinski would know how he felt about this for whenever he heard about some horrible happening he would say, “shame, such things shouldn’t happen to a human being”. So, Mr. MacKinski came across as aloof, benign and for the most part, quite harmless. Alfred had one fault and it was that he likes to read other people’s mail.

He didn’t care for the periodicals, nor was he interested in committing identity fraud, he was more interested in the personal letters people sent to each other. The more local they were the more interesting. For instance, this how he found out that after an affair that lasted five years the Anderson’s were finally going to get a divorce when Cicely unexpectedly, and with a little help, found Cameron’s secret charge card billings. He also knew what Amy Hains wanted to do to Tom (“hump him hard” and “suck dry” his male member) that made Alfred blush. Mr. MacKinski also knew that Tom thought that Amy was “fat, gross and ugly” and that it would be better for her to “f**k doorknobs” before he put out a personal protection order on her. Alfred didn’t think that was very nice and wasn’t too upset when Tom met a fatal accident by having a bullet lodge into his chest. He also thought it particularly strange that he never heard from Amy ever again. Then there was Marcus (Aurileus) Hampton who was a very angry 50 year-old and blamed “Jews ”, “Negro lovers” and “lesbians and homos” for forcing him to retire early. He expressed this anger in long letters to local, state, and federal officials becoming more angry and violent as he asked why they wouldn’t reply to his inquiries. Little did Mr. Hampton know that the reason why he never got a reply was that the letters never made it to their destinations. So, when he appeared at the city hall with a loaded 45 he was promptly arrested and labeled a “nut case”. It was in this manner that he found the identity of the teenage girl who would dress provocatively and teased him on the public bus he took to and from work.

Eva Mezzinger, 14, would wear low cut tops and short minis as she sat cross from Alfred on the bus she took to school. Most of the time she wouldn’t look at Mr. MacKinski directly but when she would catch him staring she would look at him and lick her red lipstick painted lips with her tongue and smile. This made Alfred feel very warm and made him tingle deep inside his abdomen. At first it made him feel very uncomfortable but after a while he began to enjoy these displays. This encouraged Eva to become bolder and occasionally, when no one else was looking, she would flash her panties at him. This would unbearably excite him and Eva would knowingly smile as she stared at his bulging blue-gray pants. On more then one occasion he felt light headed as she would “accidentally” rub her behind against him as they would both step off the bus. This went on for weeks until the day that she showed up early on the bus crying while wearing a short, red silk dress and white gartered stockings.

He didn’t know quite what to do and he felt helpless. He stared at her with sympathy as she sat side ways in her seat half crossing her legs (revealing a bit of her upper thighs) trying to muffle her cry. When he finally got the nerve, and only a couple of blocks from his stop, he stood up and sat next to her. He tenderly wrapped arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer laying her head against his chest. She looked up at him with worried concern from her mascara running eyes. She gave in and held him tight. For the first time he finally spoke to her and said, “would you like to stop at my house and calm yourself down before going home? You can tell me what’s upsetting you”.

She only nodded slowly and as the bus came to a stop they both exited together.

What happened next was quick and very confusing to Mr. MacKinski. He remembers leading Eva up the front porch and into his home. He remembers sitting next to her on his couch as she told him about how the school was fed up with the way she dressed and that her dad was going to kill her. He remembers kissing her hair, then her cheek, then holding her down as she fought. He remembers the police knocking down the front door, pulling him off her, Eva’s hysterical sobs and the cops yelling as they handcuffed him. He remembers being told that he had been for weeks under surveillance for the letters he stole and that now he faced charges of attempted rape. But what he found so confusing was why it was all happening to him. For you see, Alfred MacKinski thought he was God and that was his dirty little secret.

As a teacher, this story makes me angry (which is a compliment to your writing ability!).........

I know there are teachers that "cross the line", but thankfully, they are not the majority.
