Fear

Fear

A Poem by adornoscousin

I am afraid of the woman

Who keeps showing me

These images

On old movie reels that refuse to break

I hate her

And she is everywhere

In the pantry, in the kitchen and bathroom

She has worn my clothes

Before me

Before the sun rose

We all carry around some self-image, born in a different time, or which is not applicable to our lives anymore, but we continue to be haunted by ill-fitting images. Your poem reminds me of how my nasty-gram inner voice does not fit my current reality anymore but it still coughs up some ugly commentary at times! It seems like I will always have to edit out some of my ugliness. Your poem is stark & impactful. You use original comparisons that pop with familiarity (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A shadow maybe? Regardless, a great read. Short, but dark enough to leave you pondering much more than most poems of this size.

This is an intriguing write. My thoughts returned to black and white movies and somehow I started to think of Mrs Danvers in the Daphne Du Maurier novel and film of Rebecca. My goodness, she was so evil, I hated her too. Right creepy witch she was. I don't know what it is about black and white oldies, but fear came across moreso then than it does now. I don't know who is getting to you, but she seems to be suffocating and she's everywhere. You need fresh air :)
