Our Cherry Wine Anthem

Our Cherry Wine Anthem

A Poem by stargirl23

raise your glass in all your ruddiness

this is our song

our cherry wine anthem

the one that would play each soirée

underneath the bar on 31st

where the rats fled using the hole under the rug

where we exchanged oxygen for smoke, friendship for love, and parents for fun

and where our parents traded in their marriage for happiness

that's when we traded in our home for the basement under the bar

where rats fled using the hole under the rug

that cherry wine was how we traded our souls for above

ah, the nostalgia

Nicely written. The past always leaves us with regret and longing.
These line is really beautiful:
"where we exchanged oxygen for smoke, friendship for love, and parents for fun"

.

~ i find this allegory rather poetic, poignant and powerful... and so very unique... ~ there's a palpable sadness in the air... and a bit of regret... ~ this piece reminds me of the many regrets i have... especially about a past which was littered with moments that seemed precious but weren't...
