Star Signs

Star Signs

A Poem by stargirl23

I

your hands two feet to the left of mine

created in me some aura divine

insurgent warnings always came

my mind clung to you all the same

your face was in the sky

and when I closed my eyes

then I realized, thinking of your friends

that our fantastic love would be destined to end

II

as of late, we’ve been drifting apart

and I want to stop that for the sake of my heart

futures are nebulous, but ours I could see

for enigmatically, suddenly, you had become mute to me

you used to give me cause--or that’s what I thought--to believe

in the existence of us (rational me and popular you) in harmony

I didn't believe in love, still it inflicted a pain anew

it is fate that has made me hate to love you

III

a moon passed, unrequited feelings do not

paths out of this were all I sought

the cracks on my ceiling became constellations

all depicting you, my mind’s decoration

my glasses were binoculars as I searched for your personality

in the luminescent burning of my smartphone’s screen

my last hope was our star signs

in seeing if we would ever collide

Adi, Wow! Your splendid use of imagery sets this piece on unrequited love apart from most others; your strong word play explains your ideas of how this type of love without the return of investment can frustrate and discourage, making one's idea of love a far-flung pipe dream. You possess such a strong command of the poetic form; each successive piece of yours that I read makes me realize the depth of your talent. Keep writing and sending me your art! take care...dan
