![]() Why the Trees Are ScaredA Poem by stargirl23The trees get scared when the moon goes away, for that is when the demons come out. Fearing those dead-trees-become-weapons, they shed their leaves, and pray for a drought. These demons are different, they hunt the good, and those good become shelters and oh so much more. With a sharp metal twig of their own, the demons slash at wood. The tree lives in pain until they’ve sliced through the core. So don’t grow well, is what the trees are told. Grow twisted, thin, weak, faded, and brittle, instead, aim to be free of flowers and leaves, and replace them with mold. Or structures and decor of the demons, you will be when dead. © 2016 stargirl23Author's Note
