Alter of Sorrows

Alter of Sorrows

A Poem by Ruben Rodriguez

Flogging myself
To receive His forgiveness
I look towards heaven
To find deliverance

Absolve me of the sins
I haven't committed
My armor of faith
Now cracked and pitted

I've seen the good
I've witnessed the horrors
I have humbly knelt
At the alter of sorrows

A fisher of men
I've cast my hook
Memorized red words
In Constantine's book

All words have been read
All hymns have been sung
The body of Christ
Was placed on my tongue

I drank His blood
From a golden chalice
Worshiped His image
Inside an opulent palace

Showing His wounds
That will never heal
God incarnate?
How can it be real?

About
I've been writing poetry since 2014, so I'm a novice. I'm obsessed with having my poetry rhyme, but I'd like to eventually write different types of poetry. I mostly write about: love, depression, alco.. more..
