Willows

Willows

A Poem by Ruben Rodriguez

The branches of the willows descend
Weeping for passing lovers
A Broken heart is hard to mend
Hating yourself while loving others

A lifetime of trying to understand
Wasting my fruitful years
Relationships built on sinking sand
And kissing away crocodile tears

They had a feast while I had famine
An Autumn harvest that didn't come
Starving for some love and affection
I always accepted the bare minimum

Shedding this coat with my heart as it's sleeve
Avoiding all that harms
It's getting impossible to believe
I will one day die in loving arms

Today I walk passed the forest trees
Enjoying the willows in the meadow
They no longer weep for me
Now I willfully cast a single shadow

About
I've been writing poetry since 2014, so I'm a novice. I'm obsessed with having my poetry rhyme, but I'd like to eventually write different types of poetry. I mostly write about: love, depression, alco.. more..
