St. Augustine's Arches

St. Augustine's Arches

A Poem by Austin Davis

Past a shuttering-sky's yield
Vacant and aloud
Separated by silence and distance
Binding forever, together
Their hands and their will
Where an unexpected burial
Its ever-graying gloom
After bones decay, bones'll fossil
Yet for his eternal stride in recollection
Of the bride and her groom
Sprinting hand-in-hand through St. Augustine's arches
Apart from life, apart from death
Away from him, aloof

I‘ve never been a sucker for poems, but yours dragged me in. Nice contrast with the life and death thing. Nice work, dude.

I appreciate how the thought is sequentially arrange. It creates a mental picture of life and death. A life well live is never dead.

Good visions and thoughts create by the powerful description. Some places leave us with thoughts of beauty or sadness. This poem tone left me with memories of life and death and watching from a distance. A outstanding poem.

Much pleasure taken in reading this. And of personal interest as I was born on St. Augustine's day and my name would bear his if they had more space in the birth registry forms. Lol. I am particularly drawn to the image of bride and groom "sprinting hand-in-hand through St. Augustine's arches." I am glad the went off into the direction of their dreams and future lives. Hope there is a photo somewhere of the arches of this particular St. Augustine church. Thank you for sharing.
