Baby Without Rattle

Baby Without Rattle

A Poem by Adam Parker

A baby cries when its rattle is taken away
yet when it is let alone with it,
the rattle is found tossed on the floor.
A gleam on its face as it play with the
shapes, colours and peculiarities
of its toy
distracted from the innate need for melancholy,
self-pity and destruction.
With this the apple doesn't fall far from the tree
so-to speak,
as we are still babe with a rattle
wanting to cry at any chance ;
but It is only when we are distracted
by shiny lights and the pretty colours,
the big tits and the exhaust pipe
that out eyes remain dry.
I wonder if it ever changes.
