Drunk Scottish Man

Drunk Scottish Man

A Poem by Adam Parker
"

Drunk man on train.

"
To the incredibly drunk Scottish man on northern rail
the 12:38 to York,
you are everything , man.

You repeat "dies dis stoep a Accrington,?"
I reply cordially, you say "cheers pal"
in your thick Glasgow accent
and the breath of alcoholic steam hisses in my face ,
It funnels out and whispers "sobriety is for the damned and stupid "

He asks me for my name , where i'm going, my ambitions in life -
he made me question all that I am , but calmly reaffirmed my soul.
He told me he'd been at the pub all day ,
his phone had 4 missed calls but he py
"didn't give a f**k , who wants to be sober".

He shakes my hand as he gets off the train,
I see a mirror reflecting two opposites ,
a man with worries and a man who is pissed-
maybe the thought of morning lessons with a pint ?
I hope so .

haha I liked this one, I can just picture him - I often think that when I see men in pubs at 8am Monday mornings... but in reality it's pretty yuk!! -
