Intelligence

Intelligence

A Poem by Adam Parker
"

Is intelligence a gift ?

"
Is the intelligence in my brain a curse?
a curse with a correlation to chronic unhappiness-
overspeculation and reflection put brush to canvas ,
but I wish they would put a smile on faces ,
It's the least a gift could do

I often wonder
If a horse kicked my head or brick to temple - serious disease ,
causing numbness to ensue and stop reflection ,
would the academics , poets , scholars , be relieved?
It is true this phenomena causes innovation -
but I see Hemingway and the shotgun -
Van gough's ear in a box , Allen Poe dead without a penny,
will I endure the same fate that has hit so many?

It takes upon me , the vision
that intelligence that serves only the singular is
Revered for its stupidity ,
that which serves the many in form of contribution ,
is no mere serendipity , but the value in itself .
