Lamar pumpsA Poem by Adam ParkerStream of consciousness on a train journey , the thoughts that come to mind - especially about the railway and personal opinions. Inspiration by Larkin's whitsum weddings + Kendrick lamar
I depart from the family home,
gemini as my only company , we abscond and drag belongings to the station , collect tickets and board train. Tin of sardines pressed against the rattled carriage- a debauchery of British funds; wagon on tracks, a story of nationalisation builds in my brain, stream of consciousness seeping out through the windows. The woman across from me sneers her nose , curls her lip, peers her institutional eyes into mine. I feel the anger of her stare , it inspires my rage . I play scenarios of asking her what the f**k she is looking at in my head , but this isn't Taxi Driver, this is the trans penine stopping at Wigan Northweston- I wonder if George Osbourne still believes in northern powerhouses; Or whether he would edit himself in the Standard. Is this my whistum weddings ? Am I a Larkin pessimist - who knows - All I know is my life is defined by trains- to Leeds , Preston Manchester ; northern England forgotten by centralised London - in essence we are the journeys we make - no Romantic or flamboyance , just simple truth, I hope Leeds isn't Larkin's Hull- I hope I don't fall into that hole of pessimism - Lamar pumps, and suddenly its.
