Goodnight

Goodnight

A Poem by Adam Jordan Turner
"

A poem to my grandma who passed away in October, 2007, my fondest memory of her is before she went to bed every night she always looked so sweet and small in her bed.

"

You're all tucked in kissed and blessed it's time to go to bed

Asleep at last so sound and fast no worries in your head

Your mind is free your heart's at rest your spirit gently plays

If you choose so you're free to go traveling through lived days

You're all tucked in primped and pressed as beautiful as can be

While you're at rest looking your best your loved ones gently weep

You chose to live and chose to give through hearts most dear to yours

You chose to fly beyond the sky from now and evermore

If I could fly right next to you we'd race into a dream

Of clear bay shores open doors and whispers of the sea

Just promise me while I'm still here you'll fly right by my side

Loving me and guiding me surfing me through high tides

I promise you if these things you do I'll never let you down

Your memory resides in me forever safe and sound

Your love was strong always dead on when we needed you the most

I'd finally found a solid ground to where I'd keep my hope

Though you're gone my hope lives on you're not so far away

It's not so far beyond the stars as some people might say

I trust in you to bring me to this magic mystical place

Of which some day I too will stay seeing once more your smiling face

Until I arrive the rest of my life is the next thing I must do

But I didn't know that you would go while life was still so new

I promise you I'll hold onto your neverending love

Just promise me when next we meet you'll greet me with a hug

Until that day so strong I'll stay until i'm in your arms

When I'm at rest more or less I'll be safe away from harm

But now I'd die for one last time to "goodnight" you before sleep

For one more day to hear you say a tender word so sweet

More or less we did our best making sure our love agreed

Now you're all tucked in from foot to chin and I must let it be

I'll let it be and let you live in my heart beating so strong

I'll carry you in everything I do poem dance or song

So carry me in your dreams while you lay so warm in bed

For it is time to say goodbye and kiss your soft forehead

Yesterday it was "goodnight" today it is "goodbye"

Goodbye my love, my dearest love and apple of my eye

Wow! Simply a masterpiece for me.Truly saying, if there were four more lines, I'd have started crying. While reading I remembered my own grandmother and great-grandmother.All that I ever wanted to say to them, is written up there. So emotional, so touching. It has such a great flow to it.Your love for your grarndma is really deep and true. It's all well-expressed.
One of the best poems I've read!! Truly the best!!!

....I really don't even know what to say...That was amazing, and I dare not critique it. Very well done my friend.

Great poem. Really what I would say is to keep writing, whenever you feel inspired. This is an excellent topic and you say a lot about your relationship, and it's so uplifting, not sad in anyway, but in some ways stoic. You know that she lives on through you, and you revel in it. Great write, but if I must add a bit of criticism, I think sometimes your phrases are too simple, such as...

"forever safe and sound"
"apple of my eye"

These have been said, twist it up, for example, choose a different fruit than apple. Which describes your grandmother best and why? "She is the orange of my eye", because her sweetness is tucked under the peel like she is tucked into bed. Add something like that into the poem.

Really great job, keep it up!
