Selfish Poison

Selfish Poison

A Poem by Ada

Leaving the ones who love you,

Just because you’re done drinking their poison?

But you were the one who encouraged the first sip right?

You were the one who said it tasted fine.

You were the one who came back,

Sipped again and again.

You were selfish,

You thought it’d make you stronger?

Or did you think the high would last longer?
It’s your fault they got addicted,
To a love that’s now restricted.

Just keep taking it in now,

Until you lose all your fight.
Keep taking it in,
Until it swallows you in spite.

You made a promise

Don’t you dare be a liar.

Why do you do things for yourself?

Think about the poison, the way it feels.

I know it’s slowly killing you

But you leaving, would kill me.

If not for yourself,

Do it for me.

If you can’t choose yourself,

Then maybe choose me.

A sad tale about hurting oneself and others in different ways... it is selfish, harming and deliberate; it attracts other to do harmful as well and leaves those who love her admittedly broken.
Interesting piece
Warmly, B
