Wild FireA Poem by A.W. CarlPoem about being underappreciated and underestimatedEver since I can I remember, I have been belittled and disparaged. Labeled too young, too uneducated, and too sluggish. Called obtuse, reckless, and useless. A waste. A disappointment. Underwhelming. I am everything they do not understand Everything they are not Everything they do not want me to be. Forcibly confronted by my very existence, They seek to put me in a familiar box If only they could categorize me into another ordinary robot I could act in ways they could comprehend I would speak in ways that affirm their beliefs And finally they could they relax. Comforted by the instructions they use to control so many others At the end of the day, they could sit down in their chairs In the comfort of their own homes, in front of a cozy fire And feel good about themselves. Yet I am the fire! However, I am far from cozy and far from contained. I will not conform, I will not comply, and I will not be put out! I am a rare breed, a divine creation. They utter amongst themselves What disease does he have? What lies and demons have consumed him? How can we fix him? What did we do wrong that he turned out like this? I embody a dynamic individuality that seeks truth. How dare you attempt to tame me! I am too strong and too determined to lie down. I am too firm in my identity to believe the worlds lies. For I know who I am and I know what I am destined for. Your words do not define me. Your wishes do not control me. Your judgment is incomplete and meaningless. Once belittled and disparaged, I will be like a roaring fire. Those who open their minds will rejoice Genuine hearts will understand And follow me As we set the world ablaze© 2016 A.W.
