the sea

the sea

A Story by adakaia

As a stowaway, I had to keep quiet. The vessel was brimming with people. As we set sail across the great blue sea, I felt excitement. New lands awaited. I liked the idea of being a foreigner. Starting anew and exploring new lands. I watched the men working the sails and learned their language. Starboard, and various other strange terms. I’m a very curious person and I liked watching, but never being actively involved. I always wanted to be an inventor, personally. But I think a lot of the new ideas are gone, so I would imagine it involved a lot of thinking. I had looked at maps and pictures for months before deciding to board secretly. It seemed to be a place of visions and seemed promising compared to the industrial city I was from where there were more machines than people, and that was making me uneasy. I don’t trust places where no one looks you in the eye, because it made me feel like I was always in the shadows. So I wanted a place where you were free to be, and able to retreat into nature, at will.
