Looking

Looking

A Poem by Me vs. Myself

Every word is cursed from the moment it leaves my lips

Every word runs together to form phrases causing rifts

This thing we call romance is a front to disguise our lust

We sugarcoat everything in hopes of masking the rust

Flattery and infatuation result in the pain of both individuals

We take everything until all that is left are just lonely residuals

Leftovers of the people we were originally created to be

Our hearts splattered on the floor, shattered pieces of me

I try to reconnect the pieces that were never meant to break

Buried deep inside, I’m not sure how much longer I can fake

Pretend that the millions of pieces lost don’t matter anymore

Pretend it didn’t hurt when you left and slammed the door

Tempers flare and emotions bear what’s really in our hearts

Our mouth releases words from our souls firing like darts

Never ending questions haunt the very core of our minds

What is it that we are looking for? What do we hope to find?
