A Day to Play

A Story by starrynyte

my 1st children's story.

Imagine if you can a little girl about your age.

She wakes with the sun and sleeps with moon.

She plays and prays everyday at noon.

Now imagine if you can this little girl today.

She’s all alone you see with no one to play.

So she goes looking for mother.

But mother is far too busy. For she is helping little sissy.

So she goes looking for brother.

But brother is to not be found.

So she walks away with a small little frown.

But the little girl does not give up today.

For she will find someone, anyone, to play.

She finds bear but oh what a bother!

For he is still too messy and far too much like brother.

But the little girl doesn’t fear,

Because she knows grandpa is near.

So she tip toes slowly behind him.

And pulls on his shirt tail, which scares him into hiding.

And you might imagine that this would be the time to pout.

But no, not for our brave hero. Pouting is out!

She keeps searching and searching but can’t find no one to play.

Until she hears a soft, sweet melody. Someone is singing today.

She picks herself up and holds her head high.

Can it be a that there is someone to play near by?

Now let’s imagine the little girl running.

And shouting out with glee.

“Will you play? Please play with me!”

The little girls answer comes as a yes.

As dear grandmother grabs her hand and leads her to a mess.

“Yes, my child, I will play with you today. But what, oh what, shall we play?

“There’s toys here, there’s toys there. Can you think of a toy my dear?”

The little girl smiles as she tries to think of a toy.

But her smile turns to a frown with nothing comes but a boy.

“No, grandmother, I do not want to play. I do not want to play with an icky, sticky boy.

“By my dear we must not leave him out. No we must play with him while he is about.”

But the little girl’s frown can not be turned upside down.

For she does not want to play with that boy.

But the grandmother, seeing the girl in such distress, says “But maybe its for the best.”

The grandmother continues in soft spoken tones, “Don’t you remember when you were all alone?”

The little girl nods slowly and then looks up at her grandmother.

“Why yes. It was lonely and boring and no one would play.”

“Then we should let that boy play with us today.” The grandmother replies as the boy smiles with a very large grin.

The little girl nods once and then wipes a tear from her eyes. A sly smile has come to her.

Oh, what a surprise!

“Of course I will play with you today! But I make the rules.”

“Now, now my dear child, is that fair?” the grandmother replies.

“No, grandmother. Sharing is only fair.”

The grandmother smiles sweetly as the little girl takes the boy’s hand.

“Let’s play superheroes and build castles in the sand!

The two children run off, shouting with glee. “Finally someone wants to play with me!”

And so my dear child can you imagine for me once more, our heroine of the day becoming supergirl by night.

And that icky, sticky boy being such a delight!
