Can't Sleep Without You

Can't Sleep Without You

A Poem by Sammi

It's taken me a long time

A long time to realise

Why I take hours to fall asleep

Unless I'm laid with you

At first

I thought maybe it was you warmth

And the security in your arms
And how I miss you when you're not there

But it isn't

Then

I thought maybe it was your voice

And the way it soothes me to sleep like a child

But it isn't

Now don't get me wrong

These are definitely factors

But

I've figured it out

It's because I know

For at least that night

You're not poisoning your body

With smoke, alcohol, drugs

I don't have to worry

About waking up to messages

From people reporting your death

Or hospitalization

I know that you're safe next to me.
And that's what helps me sleep

This is very powerful and moving, and resonates with anyone in a relationship in their own way. Also, *you're not poisoning
