Heartbreak Blues

Heartbreak Blues

A Poem by The Boy

It's been three long days since I've seen your face

Three long days in this stagnant place

Three long days with a heavy case

Of the Heartbreak Blues.

I still wear it yknow

The heart-shaped string of Jesus beads

You pushed over my fist

Onto my wrist

The night we first made love.

They remind me how perfect you would feel

If you were curled against me in that fetal shape

Your skin on my skin

Sweating under the covers from too much heat

But too stubborn in love to separate our bodies

Like we were that night.

They are a bittersweet reminder

That the best feelings I've ever felt

Are too limited

And too special for every day.

To defy that

Is my dream

To defy the limits of what I can do

So that I can just hold you against me for another hour

Until every hour is just another hour

Of that serene perfection.

It's only been three days since I've seen your face

But it feels like three long years in this stagnant place

And all the while with a wicked case

Of the Heartbreak Blues.
