Home?A Story by absolutefolieIt was raining, again. I sat under the blanket, which wasn’t even mine, huddled up with my chin resting uncomfortably on my knees. The darkness of the night hiding my existence. I didn’t know if I regretted leaving. “Go on, leave. See if I care”. I remembered those words as if they were spoken yesterday, sliding out of my mother’s mouth without a thought. I don’t think she thought I would take her seriously, and I let out a little chuckle as I imagined her now, sitting at the table, dry mascara lines on her cheeks. The sound of police sirens caught my attention. Surely they’d given up by now? I slowly rose, the dirty blanket falling to my feet. The siren became louder, echoing throughout the alley way where I stood. My lank hair fell into my eyes so I pushed it back with the back of my hand. As I slowly paced forward, a police car rushed passed the entrance to my temporary home taking with it the silence of the night. I winced as the screeching sound of the siren filled my ears and took over my thoughts. Fortunately, after five or six seconds the sound was gone and I was back to being alone. I left the blanket, and slowly strolled out onto the pavement. I quickly turned back, surveying nothing but pitch black sadness. I walked, not too slowly, away from where I had sat for the past two days and inhaled the damp air. © 2011 absolutefolieAuthor's Note
