One Night By The BoatA Poem by Abon HassanA warm night near the sea, as the crashing waves rebel against the worlds unfortunate events.
I want to live somewhere, someday, in a boat with a young blond woman. Pour us some wine and predict a kiss under the sunset. A dumb life with the person that I love. As it gets cold I bring her a blanket. She’s sensitive and I hug her by her back. The sea is calm and rebels only in crashing waves. I read the newspaper and it says the world is ending. How could it be? She’s smiling. I couldn’t care less about the world, I’m selfish and I like this, all of it. I write my portion of the day as she goes to bed, it’s night and I love her so much. She brings me joy and all a man could want. I live to love. Ignorant of all sadness. The boat shakes a little but I am used to it, barely drunk by it’s dance but relaxed as a kite I join her. She smiles at me in the dark and I tell her tomorrow we’ll be in another world, one that it’s ending. She cries. “How could you?”. It’s nobody’s fault, she still loves me, but hasn’t forgiven, remembers the words that I put in her head. “Love?”. Yes, I say. “If we die, may we die together?”. Of course, I say. She sleeps flawlessly as an angel and I look at her seated in a rocking chair. The hair falls quietly in her face, I love it, I love her. The world may be dying but we have each other.
