My LifelinesA Poem by T.A free verse poetry about happy endings.
“The world is bad.” They say, I say it’s not entirely accurate.
Reading is what I’m passionate about Happy endings are what I crave for What I dream of
They say a book’s ending needs to be heart-wrenching For it to ‘touch’ I say absolutely not Happy endings do make impacts They make a lot more significance They make you think of beautiful, incredible things Other than “reality”
They, those whose minds are set On reality being ruthless and
dreadful, They say happy endings blind you to the truth I say absolutely not Their “reality” blinds them
Reality is not always about hardships And challenges Reality also is about love, happiness, harmony,
goodness, generosity, loyalty I could go on and on, Until hell freezes over Do you get what I’m saying?
I’m a sucker for happy endings I have a strong aversion to sad
endings You know why? I already know life is not always
going to be a joyous journey You’ll fall You’ll bleed You’ll hurt You’ll break
That’s why I need happy endings To know that beneath all these
misfortunes Beneath all these trials There’s love There’s hope To feel that every time I read
the last page Every time I see the word
‘acknowledgments’ I would feel love running
straight to my heart I would feel happiness coursing to
my veins Not sadness going straight for
the kill
Happy endings are my salvation They are my lifelines
