Shadows on the Dust - A Sonnet

Shadows on the Dust - A Sonnet

A Poem by Abdul Aziz

The night time tide shall ebb and flow no more,
And cease and come to rest sometime tonight;
These dust of memories it brings ashore
Shall scintillate and cloud our eyes with light.

The winds of time shall breathe, and come they must
To sweep these troubled thoughts afloat with care,
And as regrets form shadows on the dust,
The breeze shall dissipate them in the air.

For woe betides the mind that dwells in the past,
And seeks redemption in its sordid tales,
Unmindful of the hope that change doth cast
Mistaking winds of time for brawny gales.

Be not afraid of failure and regret,
And watch them dissipate their silhouettes.

Lessons learned in failure steer us towards personal growth. If and only if, we are not clouded by our personal perception of failure as an inability but instead look at it as an indicator that there is a weakness to overcome. It is all a matter of attitude and perspective, really. You can dwell on what a loser you are or you can figure out why you lost and what you must develop in order not to lose again.

Wonderful imagery! Kudos to you for developing it as a setting for the message of your work!

I love the Romantic feel to this poem. It's a very freely-flowing poem with a graceful touch of beauty. I especially the love the message that you convey through these words. Not only is it conveyed in a beautiful way, the message itself is one that everyone must keep at heart. I loved it and wish to read more!

LOVE the rhyme scheme. It gives this piece such an airy quality, that olden feel I adore. I like the message and the form you chose to put it in; they go hand in hand!
Wonderful writing.

Bravo........definitely be not afraid of failure and regret. Take them up, hold them close, look at them and learn. Pick up your head and go forth. Charge ahead into life with a brilliant smile and live. I love this Abdul.

Abdul i've described alot of works including yours as "good" or "great" but this is ingenious. You use older forms and I can see the John Keats influence but yet it is modern or perhaps even timeless in quality. This is going into my library
