Requiem for love

Requiem for love

A Poem by Abdul Aziz

Naught a day does ever go by

Without a memory in the blue;

Of time that trickled slowly by;

Of rainy days and, I don't know why,

Of a portrait of a silent you.

We weren't far, we weren't close,

And neither were we inbetween.

What secrets can the mind enclose?

What secrets can you disclose

Of what we are and what we've been?

I do not think of you like mad -

Just enough to make me want to do.

It is peculiar how I feel so glad

When all I do is being sad

When I start to think of you.

How oft do people meet perchance

And stay to share a starry dream,

Their every smile, their every glance,

Their furtive words, silent romance,

And memories ever agleam?

I wish you well, my trusted friend;

I pray you never lose your smile.

For reasons I can't comprehend,

I know that this is not the end;

We'll meet again down life's aisle.

Well well, look who's writing heartbreak poems :P A good poem, that's what I'll say. It tripped in a few places ('I do not think of you like mad', Of rainy days and, I don't know why). And I thought this would've done better as free verse, or at least blank verse. Anyways, glad to know you're out of writer's block. Keep writing. :)
