Traces

Traces

A Poem by Abdul Aziz

Traces

Traces

Of a sunburnt dream

Hide in her sleepy hair,

Curled upon the wooden floor

Reminiscent of nothing in particular.

Traces

Of a smile,

Creaking from the creases

Of serenity around her tranquil red lips

Dissolve into the vacancy of the night.

Traces

Of a memory

Are caught leaving her eyes

Through the windows of her pupils,

Lest they be trapped within their cerulean confines.

Traces,

Traces of her life

Are polished from the earth

As he removes the traces

Of his fingerprints while kissing

Her lips with a bleeding rose

And walks away,

A stranger in the night.

As much as I love the serenity of the work, so much I think that the use of complex/uncommon words could've been avoided to alleviate the calm quality of the poem. For me, as in this context, the last stanza only was breath-taking. Others were 'better' :)

Keep writing.
