Two Cups of CoffeeA Poem by Abdul AzizTwo cups of coffee
Two cups of coffee stole my sleep And left a ransom note: "Two boxes of your earthy dreams To make her stay afloat; And if you call the cops, she drowns In steaming antidote"
With battered speech and awkward stance, And no respite in sight, I tried my best to search for sleep Against the dying light, And hoped for coffee to be found And jailed before the night.
I armed myself with droopy eyes And body tired with pain; 'I will not give my dreams to them, Their thieving is in vain', I told myself a hundred times And said so once again.
And so it passed that night, I found The thieves enjoying sleep; I woke them up and kicked them out And they began to weep; "Now listen up you fools", I said While drinking slumber deep, "Vamoose before I call the cops, And... look before you leap!"
