Two Cups of Coffee

Two Cups of Coffee

A Poem by Abdul Aziz

Two cups of coffee

Two cups of coffee stole my sleep

And left a ransom note:

"Two boxes of your earthy dreams

To make her stay afloat;

And if you call the cops, she drowns

In steaming antidote"

With battered speech and awkward stance,

And no respite in sight,

I tried my best to search for sleep

Against the dying light,

And hoped for coffee to be found

And jailed before the night.

I armed myself with droopy eyes

And body tired with pain;

'I will not give my dreams to them,

Their thieving is in vain',

I told myself a hundred times

And said so once again.

And so it passed that night, I found

The thieves enjoying sleep;

I woke them up and kicked them out

And they began to weep;

"Now listen up you fools", I said

While drinking slumber deep,

"Vamoose before I call the cops,

And... look before you leap!"

Oh man how I have missed your poetry :)

I love how you pay attention to detail. Everything from meter and rhyme, to language and flow. You always construct intelligent writes often evoking imagery, sometimes rooted in philosophy, but here you have strayed and gave us a humorous piece, which I think is wonderful.

Great job :D

Ha! This is amazingly well written! I love it...I too am weary of late night caffeine consumption...it likes to punish me. I already get little sleep and add coffee to that and woo, I can be up all night!!! This is a great analogy of coffee stealing sleep and thugs. Love it! Great job!

First let me apologize for being so absent recently. I have a lot on my plate at the moment, so please excuse me. As medical student I would imagine coffee is much needed drug and picker upper in droopy times. Sounds like you may be a bit too sensitive to the effects and got caught with your guard down. I love this poem. It's inventive, has a wonderful flow and meter and shows a flexible sense of humor. Wonderful write Abdul. Just watch your late night coffee intake.
