Where have all the sparrows gone?

Where have all the sparrows gone

That used to chirp and sing along

And made me think that I belong

Among their dulcet clever songs?

 

I can see them clearly yet,

With claws that perched upon my heart,

With songs that tore it all apart,

They flapped their wings to ne'er depart.

 

I can see them clearly, yet

They're gone, and time is what remains,

But like a dew drop without rain

It cools but does not quench the pain. 

 

Where have all the sparrows gone?

Will they be back; sing merrily

To wash away melancholy

And soothe the pains of memory?

 

Where have all the good times gone?

They've let me drown in drops of time

In fleeting gaze, I see them in

Another place, another time.

Author's Note

I wrote this poem as it came to my mind, and hence the meter is a bit off. I've tried to accommodate it as much as I could. The first line of each stanza is trochaic, with a missing syllable! The other lines are iambic. The rhyme scheme varies only in the last stanza, and that was intentional. Thank you.

I am not sure what the sparrows are symbolic for here but i will say it is for all the good times..i think this poem is lovely it has some nice stanzas in it and a very good flow..
