My Dear Little Caterpillar

::All in the Father's point of view::

My dear little caterpillar don’t be afraid

Mommy’s leaving but she’ll be back another day

And when the stormy nights come to haunt your heart

Know that I’ll always be back to start

My dear little caterpillar please walk on

You’ve crawled and crawled enough to reach the sun

I know you don’t want to, but it’s ok

Stand up with Daddy I’ll keep you safe

My dear little caterpillar you’ve walked around

walked right into preschool town

Now you’re with bugs you don’t know

But always remember I’ll be back at home

My dear little caterpillar here comes school

You’ve ran around and made me a fool

but I know 1st grade is tough

Daddy’ll help you know all your stuff

My dear little caterpillar you’re the queen

Elementary school is now your kingdom

You laugh and play with responsibilities in hand

I’ve watched you form into something grand

My dear little caterpillar stuck in the middle

You enjoyed your reign

now, move on!

I promise this new school is just as fun

My dear little caterpillar don’t cry

Boys are jerks

He didn’t deserve you

This is bad, but soon you’ll fly

My dear little caterpillar don’t rush

You’re driving and crashing all in a mush!
I know this is hard, I was here too! 

Please don’t forget this dad here is for you!

I’m sorry my dear little caterpillar

I know you’ve got to go

Before I blinked we were packing so,

I wish you good luck and I love you too,

But never doubt that big heart you know?

My dear little caterpillar I remember

When you would not stand, then you ran

You ran through life with responsibilities in hand!

I’ve been denying this much, but seeing you now,

walking down that long long aisle

I know my dear that time is short,

If you forget me, this is my last resort

You can be called a caterpillar no more

I can see you’ve already flown so high

My dear little butterfly in the sky

Yes, life is short. Shorter than we'd like to admit. And this is a wonderful cry. We are all little caterpillars that are trying to transform and use our wings. This is a wonderful, inspired write. A most creative idea. I salute you on that.

I love how you covered all the aspects of young life, with the father proudly narrating. I remember when I was a young caterpillar too, not so much trying to find my voice, but trying to be heard. Its something we all go through, youth, but the older we get, the more we forget it was the hardest part of our lives to get through.
