Ferrin's Tale: Chapter One

Ferrin's Tale: Chapter One

A Chapter by Brad Bramble

Chapter One

Ferrin walked through the field, a cool breeze blowing his sun-bleached hair gently to the side. He cherished the warm glow of the afternoon sun upon his skin and smiled as he saw his young son Terrin running happily towards him, barefooted as always. He embraced the lad and spun him around through the air, laughing happily. And then he saw her, as beautiful as ever. Her long, reddish hair flowing behind her, the white, silken dress which she had adorned herself with earlier that morning wavering serenely around her feet.

“Palla” he whispered in awe, as if it was the first time he’d seen her. His smile grew ever wider and his eyes glowed merrily.

She waved from the doorway of their charming little cottage, grinning ear to ear, and stepped down onto the soft, earthen path. And then she began to run towards him, dissolving into laughter. She entwined herself around him, and they remained happily in their embrace for several moments.

Finally, Ferrin pulled his head back just enough that he could gaze into his ebullient lover’s lurid green eyes.

“I missed you,” he breathed softly. And then he awoke.
