The Post-Hennesy World

The Post-Hennesy World

A Poem by LexieRhea

You had accompanied me

past the waxing window people

through the waning window children

among black hats sneezing with their dogs on leashes just being

through a circus tent, quite intent,

on blocking up Hennesy Road

and I think that surely they must've known

there used to be a mailbox

and a city cat fixated on my clock and its tick tocks

and a bottle of sea green alien on my toes

you once asked where I bought it, nobody knows

there used to be a purple girl who was always awake

and now you know why she sleeps all day

Up there

where we have laid iced Kool-Aid, never said what we meant

and let our bubblegum ferment

into a thing we hold in our mouths like it's important and loud

Up there

where we have adorned our faces in pink

managed our static and scrutinized our matchsticks

in the grandfather mirror

Up there is where I have been

Since that circus tent, was so intent

on blocking up Hennesy Road,

neither you or I will ever know.
