Conquering Me

Conquering Me

A Poem by Aaron Simington
"

About a very backward society. I really wish this was all in my head and it was a bunch of fiction, but sadly it isn't.

"
I once knew you as the home of the brave and the land of the free.
I held your flag high. I never wanted to leave.
Now people take what isn't offered. Focused on money and greed.
And the choices they made are conquering me.

I once looked for you to find shelter from the storm.
I sought for your hand to keep my soul warm
"I will save you my son, but you must first believe."
And let religion inside so you can conquer me?

I was once on the top of the world, living all on my own.
But to have a house over my head, I had to leave my throne.
I'm always away from the loved. Will they forget about me?
I ask myself as life is conquering me.

We once had huge minds. We made sensible decisions.
We cared for each parent, their children, every man, all the women.
All of the news in the world we're told to believe. The Government is ineptly conquering me.

Religion and beliefs, arguing for peace
Come home just to eat, bathe, and maybe get sleep
Building walls between homes. Build diversity between equality.
And now my brain is fatigued and conquering me.
