Backward, Again

Backward, Again

A Poem by Aaron Simington

Re: a prefix, occurring originally in loanwords from Latin, used with the meaning “again” or “again and again” to indicate repetition, or with the meaning “back” or “backward” to indicate withdrawal.

Remind me why I am living
Relay the message clear
Renounce the one that made us all
He was once revered

There are no redeeming qualities
Realize this and you will know
Retake what was once stolen from you
What you relinquished long ago

Retrace the path that brought you here
Replace love with spite and greed
Release the happy memories
Remember the hate, be free

Return to the hell that you came from
Recollect the tragedy
Resend the thoughts so clear
Relive this torture and see

Remake your mistakes repeatedly
Relish them and cheer
Listen to the resounding sirens
As you resort to kill what you once held dear

Regroup, regather your thoughts and then
Reply to the questions once they begin
Refuse to go down without a fight
Review your sins, repent, good night
