My Heart Is Weathered Concrete

My Heart Is Weathered Concrete

A Poem by aaronbranch

Even if I dealt the cards out one more time,
Your flawless hand would still beat mine.
And I can't even count my blessings,
Because you will always have all the chips.
You're so in tune with the material life,
And I am ever so swindled by your lips.

As I wallow in my effortless defeat,
My heart so resembles what is at my feet.
When life takes its toll I'll just take my seat,
Because the world holds no pity for cracked concrete.

In a rush to f**k things up.
So immature is my love fascination.
But it will never be my turn.
Doomed to only crash and burn.
I used to dream of what you'd do to me.
Now I scream for what you've done to me.

As I wallow in my effortless defeat,
My heart so resembles what is at my feet.
When life takes its toll I'll just take my seat,
Because the world holds no pity for cracked concrete.

There's no turning back though I'm at the end of my cable.
How could I expect you to stay with some one so unstable?
So much on my plate, but no one's left at the table.
I see no happily forever after in my flightless fable.

As I wallow in my effortless defeat,
My heart so resembles what is at my feet.
When life takes its toll I'll just take my seat,
Because the world holds no pity for cracked concrete.
