Life is but a journey

Life is but a journey

A Poem by Amy L. Arend

A tale of growing up

always starts with childhood.

Childhood always has innocence

Adulthood on the other hand, doesn't.

The long journey from one

end of the rainbow to the other

isn't as hard or draconian as the

transformation from a child to an adult.

The realization of the truth behind Santa Clause,

the tooth fairy, or the Easter Bunny

is just the beginning of the arduous change.

The Birds and Bees talk,

the first bra, the first kiss, the first love.

All part of the positive journey.

The first heart break, the first job, the first year of High School,

the first death of a close one.

Not too pleasant to think about, but is absoutely necessary.

Experiences and opportunties spices up life

and provides sagacious maturity.

Graduating from high school and entering college.

Legally but not emotionally an adult,

comes the overwhelming mixture of aroma

labelled; Freedom and Responsibility.

Living on your own, making money and getting learned

shapes one so quickly.

Then comes marriage, and children.

Before you know it, you're on your death bed reliving

those moments on your lifelong journey.

Laying there trying to figure out where and when

you no longer were a child, but an adult.

Very relatable and...informative? Some great lines in there such as "The long journey from one/end of the/rainbow to the other/isn't as hard or draconian as the/transformation from a child to an adult." Those were really well written.

My only concern is the informative tone may be a bit overpowering. Might want to consider ways to make it more "fantastical" or "emotional" because it is life after all. I'm not suggesting scrap the informative tone, but see where you can supplement it with more visceral images and thoughts. good write though!

The secret of life. Try to keep the joy and laughter in a life like a child. Ain't so bad being old then. You took me step by step through a life and ask the final question. We become adults when the dreams of kids fate away.

This is all very true Amy, but some of us never want to grow into adulthood, and some never do. We try to go back to the pleasant things that life has shown us, I gues it doesn't really matter whether we accept adulthood or not, as long as whatever we do, we are happy and can always think about how fortunate we are for whatever we are. The journey we take, is mostly our own choice.

I absolutely love this it speaks volumes of how I have been feeling lately. An awkward stage of knowing it is time to become an adult, but hating the whole aspect of it all especially missing the innocence of my youth. You captured my feelings and I'm sure so many others in this poem.
