cigarettes, one.

cigarettes, one.

A Poem by Aaliyah Payne
"

a very short poem about a young jaded heart

"
YOU SMOKED MORE THAN THREE CIGARETTES A DAY
BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME THAT IT WAS BETTER
TO KILL YOURSELF WITH SMOKE
THAN WITH LOVE DISGUISED AS DECEIT
AND WORDS DRENCHED IN POISON.

I like how the cigarette is the person the narrator is speaking about's way out but it is also all the things he/she does not want to be killed by. (Cigarettes being made with poisoned and disguised as good things when they are not). I like it seems like both the narrator and the subject don't realize this or maybe the narrator is made because she does realize the hypocrisy and her subject does not. That's what it seemed like to me, it is a good poem though.

the "you" here finds it less painful to be killed by the nicotine rather than the pain of heartbreak.. read more
