Chapter II: An Evil Fragrance

“It seems you are intelligent and brave, woman. But will it matter if you had already faced Shiela? To face her is not just a children’s game but a venture than no once can finish. You can never defeat her,” Maia said.                     

“You can be right. I might not be able to defeat her now but I can defeat her in the future and if I still wouldn’t be able to then I would be the way to defeat her. On that case, I can say I was able to destroy Shiela,” Nadine replied.

“Talking to you would be nonsense because you even don’t know how to live up your ideals,” Nadine added and left the room.

Maia was thinking if Nadine is really right. There is only one way to know if it is true, to test it. Maia went to Shiela’s office and told to the Chief Operating Officer, “You seemed to be very busy. I wonder if you need someone to help you, Xinyi.”

Maia caught the attention of Shiela because the latter was called on her real name. Shiela replied, “Miss Daughter of the owner, do you want me to send off a secretary. I wish it wouldn’t be a spy. By the way, don’t you think this office is really good? I am the COO and yet I want more for myself. If your father will die early, you wouldn’t be fitted for this room. I want you to be the COO and I will be the CEO.”

“Why do you want me to place in that position if ever that you would be able to beat us?” Maia responded.

“Because to see my former boss’ daughter on my hands is such an incredible thing,” Shiela responded.

“That would be impossible, Shiela, because you will never have this company,” Maia replied.

“Who told you that I cannot have this company? I am going to tell you a secret. Do you know why did I choose a cheap company to work on? I had two scholarships before. My sponsor chose three people who have no value in the community. He chose a son of a criminal, a former household helper and a poor lady. He chose those three people so that there would be equality in the society. He was already about to die when he told me that I would never be successful if I will head a company because he believes that only a man can rule a company. Even though I am the wisest among his scholars, he never gave importance to me.” Shiela replied.

“I thought being under a person who recognized people on the lower society will benefit me but I was wrong, they think woman as a person who would always be on their side. That’s the reason why I made his life shorter. His family found a good medication but I would never let a person like him live. The second scholarship I applied is sponsored by a rich businessman. I sold my body to him to gain money and success. After many years, he was the one asking me to give him success. I am Shiela. I knew everything in life and not a person like you can dump what I have done,” Shiela added.

“Do you want to ask me the connection of those two scholarships to this cheap company? I believe that a person thought to be weak is a person filled with anger and hunger for success. That is the thing other company doesn’t have and only a SHIELA can fill that hunger,” Shiela said.

“Tell me, what is your real ambition? I don’t believe that you only want to be the head of this company, right?” Maia curiously said.

“I have three great ambitions in life. First, I want to be the leader in the world business industry. The following ambitions are yet too ambitious and there’s no reason for you to know,” Shiela replied.

Maia was astonished to what her nemesis said. “Your new secretary would be arriving tomorrow. Make sure that you wouldn’t be pissed off,” Maia uttered the words and left Shiela.

“The princess of the company looks shall grow into a very good person but I was only like her when I am still at her age. I was hunger for my own success but she would know that success will only bring failure to her. She was only a princess and not a wise man from the slums,” Shiela said while preparing the documents she will shred.

On the other hand, Nadine received the call of her employment to the QSD Crown Corporation. “From this day on, Shiela’s life would change because her destroyer is already passing her on. Tomorrow is the day she will meet me again but this time, I would make sure that she would learn her lessons,” Nadine said while facing to the mirror.

The next day was one of the typical days except for the new secretary of the renowned Shiela Ming. Nadine knocked Shiela’s room. “You may enter,” Shiela said. Nadine entered the room with a very pleasing but courage aura.

“Are you my new secretary?”  Shiela asked. Nadine replied, “Yes, Ma’am,” with a very nice voice. “Start your work now. Wait outside and I will just call you,” Shiela said. Nadine looked embarrassed. Shiela didn’t even ask her name or anything about her. Nadine was already opening the door when Shiela started to speak, “Did you think that I will be asking your name?” Nadine faced about and stared at Shiela very uncomfortably which gives an impression that she was not expecting any.

“Don’t stare at me like that. You are my archenemy’s sent and just like what I have thought the princess gave me a nonsense person. Don’t dare to return tomorrow because you already lose the job,” Shiela said.

“What is your reason for firing me?” Nadine asked with courage. “In my entire life, there are two kinds of people who tried to be with me. The first person was trying to be promising. They were nice but filled with fierce. Those people are not trustable because people like them are the one who was failing in the end. The second kind of person I have met is the type of person who was nervous and intimidated. If they cannot stand up today, when will they be? You might think it as wrong but in the kind of person you are standing in front. Only persons greater or equal to me are those who can serve me,” Shiela replied.

Maia was listening outside and said to herself that she was wrong to get Nadine because it just made her to be a loser.

“You are right. You are Shiela, the most powerful woman of the world. I may not be good enough to be your secretary but I am the only person who knows how to pull you down,” Nadine said.

Shiela laughed and replied, “This is the first time that a person told to me those words. You want me to not fire you on your job because you know what can pull me down. I don’t care if you know it or not but someone like you would never be deserving to be my secretary.”

“I am not asking you to retain me on this office. To defeat a person like you would be very hard. In order to beat you, somebody should be more intelligent, wiser and more strategic. With those three characteristics, I cannot utter a name that I can compare to you. After all, there are three things that you are least about and those things can pull you down,” Nadine uttered those words with bravery.

“Tell me what is it?” Shiela’s attention was caught by Nadine and the latter continued, “Your first weakness is that you don’t have one thing that every person has.” Shiela was expecting it to be eternal love because for every person she had talked about, she can read that they were thinking she has no eternal love.

“You don’t have an enemy called Shiela,” Nadine said. “To a person not better than Shiela, her name becomes an inspiration to be better. For you, having no Shiela is a thing that can never damage you but that fact can never help you. You can never be more inspired to be better because there is no enemy such you that you want to defeat,” she added.

Shiela was really listening to Nadine and she reacted, “Having an enemy called Shiela? Who would need an enemy called Shiela. If I would have an enemy called Shiela that can never be defeated, why should I be better if I can never beat her? You are telling me that I don’t have any advantages. You are wrong because being a person whom the world was afraid of. It gives me more power.”

“Who told you that you are undefeated? You have been defeated so many times Shiela. You just don’t want to remember it when you killed the person who lived before in your body called Xinyi,” Nadine replied.

The young lady continued even slightly intimidated, “The second thing you are least about is that you are not born to be a princess. Your fate started on the slums. To start in the slums killed your time. You are a person who sold her body to gain success. With such a dirty body, everybody would put you down. At your front, all of the people is smiling but when you faced about, what left is the voice of stabbing voice which tries to kill your personality.”

“Tell me, do I care about that thing? They might be giving me the odor of the worst flower in the world but I have all of the fragrant flowers in the world. The effect of having that smell keeps me good because having it doesn’t give me a pressure unlike those people who had fame and suddenly fell down. They can never rise again like what they did before but for falling down first is a compliment for me. I fell down when I am already at the bottom so there would never be effect. Now tell me, what is the third thing?” Shiela said.
