A Broken Heart

A Broken Heart

A Poem by Art Freeman

How do I mend a broken heart?
Shattered by sharp words spoken harsh.

A heart so fragile
And so torn apart.

A stony heart mishandled.
Turned bashful, and punctured
In all its parts.

A heart malnourished,
Void of courage, and highly unstable.
Unencouraged, and nearly disabled.

A playful heart rendered incabable
Of coping with emotions.
Hoping for every thing hopeless.
Tortured by forces spoken and unspoken.
Uncertain of everything
That was once certain.
And searching for shelter
In a place desolate and deserted.

How do I comfort a heart
So hesitant and nervous?

So cautious and removed.

A confused heart
That's learned to be more
Introverted and aloof.

Hiding far from the truth.

How do I soothe a heart
Bruised and teased?

A heart whose locks where broken
With stolen keys.

An open heart with no closure.

Your compassion and desire to WANT to mend this heart is what makes this poem for me. Sometimes so many of us coil into ourselves when we are wounded - I know I have - and we are unreachable (end of story ) but time - patience - understanding - builds trust and then slowly SOMETIMES - that coiled injured heartache begins to unwrap itself and let you put bandages on it - but only SOMETIMES. That is what is so painful - having to accept when it won't happen no matter how hard you try. -Leah

the rhythm at play in this piece means you can hear it as you read it. it works to emphasise and drive home every image and thought which you put out there and makes the whole thing flow nicely. it is a powerful subject which you tackle here and it really resonated with me and i think the delivery made it so easy to absorb the message. great work.

Your words flow well in this one. My only question is what is the answer to your question. I particularly like this line

a heart
whose locks where broken
with stolen keys

That's a great image.

"An open heart with no closure"

^^^A apt ending to a poem that's anything but cliched.

Sometimes the simplest things require repetition lest they are left to fall unseen and forgotten by the wayside of life by people to busy to remember the sweet significance and the peaceful refrain of fading melodies and heartfelt hope and passion.

You have a way with words that is refreshing to read and a joy to experience on a spiritual level that opens up possibilities unseen and desires sought after by those to blind to see beyond the gassamer veil of deception.

Looking forward to reading more from you in the future.

At times this poem seemed to be very cliche and in other spots it was richly unique. The fast paced schemed made me feel like each line was a beat of the heart. Nice work =)

I extremely liked it! Witty and a quick read, perfect healing relief. The ending is successful:

"far from the truth
how do i soothe
a heart
bruised
and teased
a heart
whose locks where broken
with stolen keys
an open heart
with no closure " =======>>>>>>>raffinesse!

*Standing Ovation* Bravo!!!! This is brilliant... BRILLIANT!
This breathes power and sorrow and longing and a desire for peace. And none is there to be found. I am in awe here.

"an open heart with no closure" OMG I am speechless!
