How do I mend a broken heart?
Shattered by sharp words spoken harsh.
A heart so fragile
And so torn apart.
A stony heart mishandled.
Turned bashful, and punctured
In all its parts.
A heart malnourished,
Void of courage, and highly unstable.
Unencouraged, and nearly disabled.
A playful heart rendered incabable
Of coping with emotions.
Hoping for every thing hopeless.
Tortured by forces spoken and unspoken.
Uncertain of everything
That was once certain.
And searching for shelter
In a place desolate and deserted.
How do I comfort a heart
So hesitant and nervous?
So cautious and removed.
A confused heart
That's learned to be more
Introverted and aloof.
Hiding far from the truth.
How do I soothe a heart
Bruised and teased?
A heart whose locks where broken
With stolen keys.
Your compassion and desire to WANT to mend this heart is what makes this poem for me. Sometimes so many of us coil into ourselves when we are wounded - I know I have - and we are unreachable (end of story ) but time - patience - understanding - builds trust and then slowly SOMETIMES - that coiled injured heartache begins to unwrap itself and let you put bandages on it - but only SOMETIMES. That is what is so painful - having to accept when it won't happen no matter how hard you try. -Leah
Art - this definitely speaks universally to the broken hearted - i've no problem relating to this - i like the rhythm of this piece when i read it out loud - the rhyming also jumped out at me a lot more when i read it out loud - it wasn't as obvious when i read it silently - nice work - glenn
this was heartwrenchingly beautiful
something we all can relate to
ah the trials of love and live
love pain and the whole crazy thang
beautifully woven ;)

Wow, Art! This is really great! Thank you so much for sharing it with me! I believe that my favorite part of this comes at the end.
"how do i soothe
a heart
bruised
and teased
a heart
whose locks where broken
with stolen keys
an open heart
with no closure "
That you can see such vision of one who's heart was so torn is amazing and then to so succinctly and beautifully question how to mend it is truly a work of art! The rhyme scheme is awesome too!
When a reader finishes reading your work and says to themselves, "he's talking about me," then you have reached beyond your own borders, and written a piece that touches others. You have done just that. Art, I truely love this piece.
amazing flow. You said what you had to say without producing a cliche "hey guys I've got a broken herat - look at me!" piece. I usually hate rhyming techniques but this was one of the few (of non-famous authors) i think was done spot on. I saw a good pattern of word choice developing as well, I think.
This would be awesome as spoken word. I has such rhythm and strong hard emotions. Each phrase flows of the tongue segueing into the next like blood as it seeps into cloth.
I think you captured the word that every broken heart would speak if it was capable. Loved it. :o)
...I rode for Miles on Coltrane...became Dizzy when I met the Duke...spent the Holiday with the King...and a handsome Monk...but it was a colorful Hancock that taught me how to Cooke and Count...
