Part 2

Part 2

A Chapter by A sea person
"

This one is much shorter than the first.

"

I remember once

I thought I found him.

I thought he found me.

He came riding up in all his glory,

but he did not see anything beyond the thorns.

I thought he did.

So I tamed my brambles.

I trimmed back my thorns, if only a little.

It took years, decades, centuries of effort to allow even a little to show.

But show I did.

And he finally saw!

I have never felt such joy.

He was not the most handsome man, but he was mine.

My prince.

But then I saw him.

Not my prince, but him.

It was like waking up from my dreams again,

but more horrible than I could ever imagine.

I knew his heart then.

It was “Veni Vidi Vici”

and nothing of mine remained.

I was not his princess,

and he definitely was not

my prince.

So one day, he left.

Nothing unusual, he even told me he was going.

A mutual parting, if not a pleasant one.

He returned some time later.

Weeks, months, years.

Time has no meaning for him.

Though he knew what was beyond the brambles and thorns,

though he longed to return to my keep,

he could not cross.

I had worked hard to make it so.

He would not enter my keep again.
