The Victim

The Victim

A Poem by Kim Carrillo

“It’s ok” they said,

“Everything will be alright” they said,

“It’s gets better” they said,

“You’re strong” they said,

“You’ll move on” they said,

“The pain will go away” they said.

Yet their eyes are filled with pity,

They know everything will never be the same,

Because what happened can never be erased,

When they look at me,

They will remember,

Remember of the evil deed,

that was done to me.

Their smile so fake,

As they try to comfort me,

On a pain that they don’t understand,,

How could they understand?,

They weren’t there,

When it happened.

They didn’t experience it,

The fear that had consumed me,

The coldness that spread through my back,

The dryness of my throat,

As I scream and cried for help,

Help that didn’t come,

Until it was over.

The ones who can understand,

Are the ones who felt it,

The ones who had experienced the pain,

Experienced the penetration in your being,

The innocence being taken away,

Being forced to see the cruelty of the world,

See the animalistic nature of man,

As he leaves his mark,

Of what he did.

I am the reminder,

Of what he done to me,

The bruised flesh displayed my struggle,

The forced hickeys displayed the unwanted love,

The timidness displayed my fear,

The close proximity of a man,

Will bring alarming bells in my mind,

Reminding me of what happened,

At that horrid night.
