Hero

Do you await to be saved or do you become you own hero?

Stop swinging your sword aimlessly,

You can’t fight an enemy you cannot see,

You can’t kill the monster without killing me.

This is the symbiotic life I endure,

For which I know there is no cure.

The only way of ridding the shadows

Is switching off the light.

Yours is a losing fight.

Turn back your white horse fearless knight.

I am a host who loves their parasite.

My blood is up for the spilling

You cannot save a hostage,

If their captivity is willing.

Even if you think you aren't worth saving, or perhaps think you're past saving, by the sounds of things it doesn't stop your fearless knight from trying to. He will always try to show you that you are worth saving, thats what knights do. I love this.

There's no point in swinging a sword aimlessly, but if I was threatened or my loved ones were, then I would fight. That side of me is hidden. I keep it in the shadows because I fear it. I fear what the dark side of me is capable of. Defending yourself or your loved one's is not particularly heroic to me, more a fight for survival. That's where your lines took me. You write well. I enjoyed the read. All good wishes

When I wrote this I was feeling very low and a loved one was trying to sort of cheer me up and make me feel better. But I felt like no external force could help me unless I decided to heal from the inside. This poem is the result of that struggle. Thank you for reading as always.

Some just need to be captive...it is in their heart's blood not to be needed but to need...
i like the idea of getting rid of shadows by turning off the light, rather than turning it on.
We need to face the shadows ourselves...sit in the dark awhile.
