She's the Girl All the Bad Boys Want

She's the Girl All the Bad Boys Want

A Story by Dani
"

Friends in the strangest places.

"

I've never, ever thought that I'd be the type of girl that could ever attract another person before, much less one who just so happens to be the biggest jerk in the world...
"Tanya! Lookin' sexy, baby!" he hollered at me, throwing a wolf whistle my way. Disgusting.
I whirled around, flinging my dull brown hair behind me, addressing my offender. "You had better hold your tongue, Jay, or else I'll make you swallow those words!"I called above the crowded hallway, full of bodies.
His cocky smirk found its way to me, causing my eyebrows to furrow in anger. I whirled around again and lead my friends down the hall.
"Tanya, you shouldn't even respond to him. That's why he keeps doing all the stuff he does," my best friend Lilly muttered lowly as we made our way to class. "Guys like Jay feed of stuff like that, you know? They just want to get a rise out of you."
"Guys like Jay only exist to torment girls like me," I huffed, angry. Why can't he pick on somebody more worthy of his torments like Ariel, head cheerleader on steroids? Oh, wait, because she's pretty. As for me, I'm not the shiniest spoon in the drawer. That is to say, I'm extremely plain looking from the get go, which is enough fuel to make all the jerks in school, especially Jay, captain of the soccer team and best in state, to pick on me and make my life a living hell.
I sighed and Lilly nudged me in the ribs with her elbow, giving me her warning look. Now, Lilly on the other hand, does not get picked on by other boys, in fact, she gets hit on. They all want her because of her long, luxurious auburn hair and bright, hazel eyes. She has beautiful pale skin and a thin frame that is to die for as well as a perfectly straight nose and teeth to boot. Though, why she would ever want to be friends with me is far beyond what I can comprehend, apparently. Maybe she hangs out with me just to make herself look even better; though she claims this as false.
"Jay just likes making fun of you-" she said
"Because I'm ugly," I interjected, receiving a harrowed look from my friend.
"Because he likes you," she finished, a little flustered than before. I gazed at her incredulously.
"What? How the hell can you even propose something like that!" I demanded. She looked at me innocently. "You're incredible. Jay is a jerk and there is no way in hell that he'd ever go for someone like me. In fact, he goes for girls like you and Ariel, though she should be put away in the loony bin or something. He only torments me so he can catch your attention. I've seen this a million times before," I said, exasperated.
Lilly rolled her eyes and we went to class to... I dunno, learn or something.
------------------------------------
The lunch bell rang and Lilly and I hurried to the cafeteria, not to eat or anything but to gawk at the cute boys in school, as is our daily ritual. Eating just isn't as important to Lilly and I anymore. Ever since the enrollment of our school enlarged exponentially, she and I just haven't had enough time to look at all the adorable cuties that transferred to our wonderful establishment.
We're girls, it happens.
"Oh my gosh! Tanya, there's Jake!" Lilly exclaimed, pointing to a rather tall, lean, blond haired boy with curls to die for. "He's so adorable!"
I snorted. "He helps Jay torment me in class. He's not so adorable," I rolled my eyes and Lilly sighed.
"You really need to let all this go," she said. "He's been tormenting you for, what, two years?"
"Three, to be precise. What's worse about it is that we used to be good friends, though that was before you moved her so you wouldn't understand."
"How does that make it worse?"
"Because he has dirt on me, that a*s. Now that he's the big badass of the school, he knows how to use it and probably tells all his little friendlings about me and all my little secrets as well."
Lilly didn't say anything but stared over my shoulder, eyes wide and with a content little smile on her face. When she neglected to return her attention to me, I asked,
"What?"
She nodded over my shoulder and I couldn't help but turn around. Behind me, and walking toward us was, possibly, the most adorable boy I've ever seen. He was tall and thin as a board and had the cutest face on a teenage boy... His hair was jet black and long and looked fluffy, too. Sure, all the idiots in my school would label the poor boy as Emo or scene or whatever, but I didn't care, he looked like a sweetheart.
"Hi, I'm new here and you two look really interesting. Mind if I join two lovely ladies for lunch?"
He was a sweetheart.
Lilly smiled and shook her head. He looked at me and I nodded. He sat down next to me.
"So, does the cute boy have a name?" Lilly asked. She's so audacious sometimes, but the boys love her.
He chuckled. "Well, I don't know about cute, but, I do have a name. It's Asher."
"Hey, Tanya, attracting Emo children already? I knew they can take a lot, but I didn't know they were able to handle your face."
I whirled around, beet red with anger. "I didn't know the soccer coach just let any no-talent loser play on the team."
His bright blue eyes narrowed at me. "For your information, we won our last game."
"Oh, I'm sorry," I feigned sincerity. "I thought the last team you played consisted of a bunch of girls. I heard their goalie made half the team cry."
Jay pushed his dark hair out of his face before turning around and withdrawing his presence.
I turned around to see Asher and Lilly watching me, both with wide eyes. I sighed. "You'll have to excuse Jay," I apologized to Asher. "He's our 'star' soccer player without much going on in the attic."
"Wow," Asher said, fixing his yellow eyes on me. "You're really quick with the insults aren't you?"
I shrugged. "I have to be. He's my arch nemesis."
-----------------------------------
Weeks and weeks passed with Jay still not letting up on the insults, as usual. I could tell that he and I were both running out of material. Also, I've developed a sort of crush on Asher as he and Lilly and I became fast and tight friends. I think that he's got a small crush on me, too. One can only hope.
After a while, Jay began to let up on the insults, probably saving up a stock so he can hardcore bombard me later with them, leaving Asher and Lilly and I to our own devices.
Another week passed and Lilly received a boyfriend, Jake, the cute one. Even though he and Jay were pretty tight, Lilly made him promise to leave me alone unless I started it, which I pretty much always did. Jake wasn't as creative as Jay, but he was fun to mess with.
It wasn't until two days later that Asher made his move to ask me. I accepted, not caring if people called him Emo or whatever else they could come up with. He was intelligent and sweet and didn't make fun of me and that's what I like.
After Asher and I became an item, Jay completely let up, finding new sources for his entertainment. I obviously didn't matter anymore to him and that was just fine by me.
---------------------------------
Jay:
Jake was happy with Lilly and Tanya was happy with that stupid Emo kid... What the hell as the world come to? None of them are eachother's type at all.
Perhaps I'm the only sane person in this world. Perhaps not. My luck seems to forever be waning on every topic that comes up in my mind.
Tanya, especially.
Sure, we'd parted ways three years ago and that's when I'd started picking on her, but she hurt me first.
We'd been friends for a very long time before high school started and before I really got into soccer (which I don't really like. I just play it because I'm good at it). I still remember how it happened.
It was two weeks before freshman year began for both of us and Tanya was incredibly frightened of going to high school because she was afraid that I wouldn't want to be friends with her anymore.
"Why would you think that, Tanya?"
"Because I'm ugly, Jay. I'm incredibly boring looking and, have you seen the girls over at the high school? They're gorgeous."
I couldn't believe what she was telling me, and I told her so. She shook her head violently and disagreed with me strongly.
The next two weeks proceeded this way, with Tanya completely putting herself down about how she looks... and pissing me off.
Finally, I snapped, joined the soccer team and haven't talked to Tanya in over three years, except to make fun of her. Sometimes, I miss the long talks she and I used to have about nothing whatsoever. Now, though, I've pissed her off so much that I doubt she'll even consider... Well, even liking me.
Now she's got that skinny little Emo freak of a boyfriend, Ashton, or whatever his name is, who is absolutely not her type. How could Tanya fall for a wimpy little kid who spends more time on his hair than he probably does on her?
I just had one question for myself. Why was I getting so worked up?
"Jay!" I heard my name called behind me and turned to see the hated little maggot advancing towards me, smiles and everything. Funny, I wasn't aware Emos could smile.
"What do you want?" I questioned as coldly as I could, yet the kid just kept smiling.
"Well, I came to ask you to quit making fun of Tanya. It really bugs her and stuff, you know?"
Yes, I know. That's why I do it.
"So what if I don't?" I asked, slamming my locker shut. His tone hit a devious note.
"Well, then I'll have to hurt you."
I laughed at that. I actually laughed right in his face for saying what was probably the most outrageous thing I'd ever heard.
"You're not going to take me seriously are you?" He asked, crossing his arms and drawing himself up to full height. I was suprised to find that we were the same height, but I could have easily taken this punk all on my own. As a matter of fact, it doesn't sound like a bad idea right about now.
Instead, I shook my head and Asher frowned. What the hell kind of name is Asher, anyway? Punk.
"I know why you pick on Tanya, Jay."
"Because its easy?" I asked, keeping my nonchalant facade, when really he was beginning to irk me.
He shook his head. "No, because you like her, and you're too stupid to show her you like her the normal, human way and just treat her with respect."
I scoffed. "Oh please. You think you're so self-rightous?" He nodded. "You'd better get out of my face you little maggot or I'll-"
"You'll what?" he asked, looking me dead in the eye as a challenge. "You'll hit me? Oh, I'm so scared."
Boy, was he lucky there were people in the halls. No, I'm not the stupid, blundering jock-type who just goes around looking for a fight. I know when to withdraw and I know how to twist and play my words, but this kid needed a good punch in the face. Damn.
Asher's eyes flickered away from me for a second and then returned to my face and he grinned wickedly.
"You know, Jay," he said. "Tanya is a great kisser. She knows so many techniques and just how to hold you while its happening. And you know what? I'll bet you anything she'd be just a prize in the sack..."
A what...?
....
"Yeah," the little s**t kept talking, realizing he'd struck a nerve. Damnit if I couldn't keep my walls up just that much longer. "In fact, I think I'll find out soon. Oh, sure, she's the type to be a little hesitant at first, but I think with the right probing, she'll give into me real quick and easy."
I watched as something flashed behind his eyes and I knew that this guy wasn't who he claimed to be. He wasn't some puny, Emo freak like he put off to be and he sure as hell wasn't the breakable sweetheart that Tanya thought he was either. I was about to find out just who he was, whether or not I had to beat it out of him. I had a feeling he was going to get beat one way or another.
"Perhaps tonight... Even if she doesn't want to do it, I have ways of getting what I waaaacckkk-"
My arm was around his neck in nanoseconds, rendering him unable to finish his last, disgusting sentance. His thin fingers were raking against my arm but I quickly took care of that, pulling both hands behind his back.
"You will do no such thing!" I growled dangerously. We were attracting attention.
"Jay!" my head snapped up to see Tanya sprinting forward to me, all worried and flustered. "What the hell are you doing!"
I dropped the little idiot and he fell to the floor with a thud.
"Tanya, I-" she slapped me clear across the face, cutting me off and then knelt down to help her "boyfriend" off the ground.
"What the hell do you think you're doing, Jason?" she demanded, addressing me by my full first name. "Whatever anger problems you have are between you and me only!" she narrowed her eyes at me and pulled at her soft brown hair. "I can't believe you'd do this to me after all these years. You may be a big a*s jerk, Jason, but I never thought you'd do something this stupid."
She helped Asher to his feet and brushed his too-long locks out of his face. "Are you okay?" she asked him. Coughing and clutching at his throat, he nodded. I didn't choke him that hard. Baby.
Wait. No. I hurt Tanya. D****t.
"Tanya, please, I-"
"I don't want to talk to you, Jay. You can torment me all you want but you'll never hear another sound out of me addressed to you ever again."
Just like that, she walked down the hall, leading her little weasel behind her. Before they rounded the corner, he threw a smirk at me that told me he was so much more than who he was.
-------------------------------
Tanya:
What. A. Jerk.
Here I thought that he might actually be turning over a new leaf now that he's let up making fun of me and tormenting me completely. So this is what he was waiting for the entire time; a chance to try and strangle my boyfriend.
Idiot.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Asher asked, looking thoughtfully at me with his big, bright eyes on me.
"Nothing, I'm just sending bad Karmah Jay's way," I answered truthfully. Asher chuckled and put his arm around me.
"Don't worry about it, I'm fine. He was probably having a bad day and was looking for an outlet."
Aww. Sweetheart.
I was still deep in my thoughts though, and I think Asher realized this becuase he leaned forward and nipped at my neck, playfully, which caused me to giggle. He smiled against my skin and kissed it. I tilted my head to the side and went to work, planting small kisses in a trail along my neck and chin until he reached my mouth. We'd gone on like this for about five minutes before I felt a hand travel from my leg up my shirt to my stomach and begin to travel higher.
"Hey, what are you doing?" I asked suddenly, pulling away. Asher looked upset for a split second, but then his smile returned right back to his face.
"Just a little touch and feel, you don't mind, do you?" he asked innocently.
"Yes, actually."
He leaned forward and pecked me on the lips and I felt his hand attempt to go up my shirt again.
"Asher..."
"What? Come on, Tanya," he cooed convincingly and advanced even further into my personal space, a little more than I was comfortable.
"No, Asher, I don't want to. You're making me uncomfortable."
He made a little noise. "Jay said you'd feel uncomfortable."
"What are you talking about?"
He grabbed my wrists and pinned me down on my bed and I suddenly wished that Lilly and Jake were here.
"Jay and I had a little talk before you showed up and he said that I'd better not try anything with you, or something stupid like that," he said, repositioning himself into a more comfortable position. Well, comfortable for him and looked into my eyes. "Shame," he said. "Jay was just trying to protect you through beating the hell outta me and you showed up just in time."
He leaned foreward and kissed my lips against my will.
---------------------------------------------
Jay:
I'm. An. Idiot!
I lay on my bed, gazing at the ceiling and refelcting on my stupidity of today. On retrospect, I realize I shouldn't have let my anger get the best of me. Better yet, I shouldn't have let the little prick spike my anger like he did. Then I wouldn't even be in this mess. Tanya's never gonna talk to me ever now.
Now I'm stuck with my guilt.
This weekend is going to suck.
I was brought out of my thoughts by the hasty buzzing of the doorbell. Whoever was on the other side of the door was in a hurry. I nearly ran to the door and wrenched it open without looking through the peephole.
I found Tanya on the other side. Crying her eyes out.
"Tanya... What-?"
She ran up to me and hugged me tight, burying her face in my chest before I could get my sentance up. As awkward as this was... I wrapped my arms around her thin body and we stood there for a few minutes until her sobs slowed down.
When they did, she pulled away, wiping her nose and I brought her inside, closing the door and sat her down on the couch.
"Tanya, what's wrong?"
She tried to talk but then burst into sobs again and leaned into me. I only caught one word. "Asher."
I pushed her at arm's length and looked her dead in the eyes.
"What happened? What did he try to do?"
She sniffed a few times and returned my gaze. "I think you know..."
"Did he?"
She shook her head violently. "I wouldn't let him. I kicked him, well, you know where and I threw him out of the house and ran all the way here, afraid that he was following me..."
I smiled as she leaned into me again and I held her there for, well, longer than I could have ever imagined.
"I'm sorry," I mumbled into her hair. Her response was an immediate snuggle into my chest and a content little sigh and she intertwined her fingers with mine.
I'm not a bad guy, nor have I ever been the bad guy. Then again, I've never been considered the goodguy.
Right now, I was incredibly elated to be considered the goodguy by my best friend.
