Romancing the Stars

Romancing the Stars

A Poem by Gabriel Ezutah
"

This poem was inspired by an actual out-of-the-body experience i had sometime ago. Travels outside of the physical body are difficult to articulate and put into words because there are no words to describe what one experiences beyond the normal senses. Th

One bright night I sat still and like a common
girl craving a charming movie star,
I gazed at the smiling stars
and I saw them cluster in a divine kiss
yet I saw them carefully detach to make space
for one another to shine or to frown as they pleased.
My eyes twinkled, sparkled with their devotion
and I caught and locked up fierce lions and tigers
and leeches and bedbugs and lice
of my fears and my cares and of my sorrows
inside amnesia’s unbreakable steel box.
And I let the lashing tides of human emotions
drift through the sieve of my blank mind
to disappear with the aimless gray clouds
for the happy stars to glow and shine even brighter.
And I just sat cat-still and stared and looked on—
not like astronomers of high material motives,
nor weightless astronauts of heavy straitjackets
but like a carefree child of catty curiosity.
Soon I was nothing—soon I was free—
soon I was as light as a silent morning breeze
and for a brief moment in eternity
I could swear I saw and felt myself—not as myself—
but as Soul—out of my matter body—a blazing comet—
a dazzling diamond-ball of blissful lights—
shine and glow among the immortal stars.
