What is behind

What is behind those loving stares that go on for eternity
That I do not deserve

What is behind those kind words directed at me
But should be for anyone else

What is behind the gentle cerases of my hair behind my ear
Just so your cheek can be closer to mine

What is behind those soft chuckles of jokes that are never funny but you laugh anyway

I’ve given up wondering what is behind and just glad that I am in front

In front of these loving stares, kind words, gentle caresses and soft chuckles

And I aim to be in front if you are behind for as long as I can
