Surreptitious DilliriumA Poem by Zorrin86
Who will forgive you of your crimes now
That the judges have all hanged themselves? And when the ghost of Robespierre comes to haunt you Do not clench your teeth in despair, For there are beings in this world That would sooner possess you than haunt you. I am one of them, but pay no attention to that for now. There are flowing rivers in places seldom seen By the tired of eyes and short of breath. There the river nymphs bathe themselves And any others that their capricious whims deem fit; Monsters have no place here, But neither would the cloaked saint feel welcome, For the passions of the sea are wasted on the unwholesome With vices estranged from the cycles of the moon. Soon the day will end, O my friends, And none are the wiser for it, Having slaved away like beasts under the yoke, Or frittered hours away in idle repose with jesters and midwives. The wisdom of the shadows and settings sun Will court our stifled passions in vain. And if the sky should rain broken glass tomorrow Let me be happy today with my banned books and cruel concubines. © 2016 Zorrin86 |
