A Ghost by Her Bedside

A Ghost by Her Bedside

A Poem by Alexa Tasch
"

In my mind, this is all steampunksih

"

Shaft of moonlight gleaming through the window

Shining tenderly on her bed

Through the gauzy curtains and on silky sheets

The moonlight shines upon her sleeping

A soft murmur escapes her lips

In soundless pleasant dreaming

The Grandfather Clock presiding

Struck midnight and went on chiming

A light snick sounds in the darkness

Let’s not forget the pale glow from ‘neath the door

A pale hand holds a rusted key

Solidly inserted in a golden lock

An ethereal face, white and smiling

Hiding in the shadows, the angel opens the door

Top hat in hand and waistcoat trailing

He glides to her sleeping

This unholy undead standing beside her

Her golden hair sprawling all around

He whispers the name of his lover in life

She sighs in the warmth of his ghostly glow

But when the Grandfather Clock stops tolling

He fades back into the night

She breathes the name of her lover in death

In hopes he will return again tomorrow
