Crying Slaughter
A Poem by Zolly
Prompt: Imagine being someone’s shadow for a day—what would you witness? How would you feel?
Hmmm Laughter, maybe? Slaughter, crazy? Rum down their throats Unease filled in their holes Quiet wishing upon hearing There's no noise with these folks Hamper the stakes, the state, the steak Dinner is not everyone's prize Deny them. Murder their pride. There is no such crime as dinnertime.

There could be many interpretations, but I have six.
One, Societal Critique: It challenges the constructs of privilege, power, and indulgence, highlighting disparities between the elite and the marginalized.
Two, Human Nature: It reflects on primal instincts—greed, pride, and consumption—masked by societal norms and traditions.
Three, Hollowness of Excess: The poem critiques how indulgence and materialism often fail to fill emotional or spiritual voids.
Four, Moral Decay: It implies a breakdown of values, where pride, greed, and superficial connections replace genuine human interactions.
Five, Rebellion or Retribution: The shadow’s perspective could represent a voice of dissent, yearning for justice or balance in an unfair system.
Six, Existential Observation: On a broader level, the poem could be about witnessing life from a detached perspective, pondering the futility of certain human pursuits.
