I Once Had a Way With Words

I Once Had a Way With Words

A Poem by Zoe Zee

I once had a way with words.
My every whisper was a poem.
I spoke lines about the flowers and the birds.
I never once let god wonder what I owed him.

I spoke what was on my mind and you always understood.
You always knew what it was I needed.
In every word I spoke you heard the good.
For every chance to speak with you to the universe I pleaded.

Then you walked out the door and with you walked all my lovely prose.
From then forward from my mouth only came the broken.
I could not speak of the beauty even in a rose.
Only mangled, twisted confusion in every word spoken.

I tried to write my thoughts,
I tried every day.
Yet to even write my name takes everything I've got.
Even with hours spent staring at the page, all I get is a hurricane.

To everyone I see I try to explain
How I'm feeling since you went away
They leave me with a worried look and my eyes start to rain.
Because since you aren't around I have nothing good to say.

I try to talk it out,
to say what's on my mind
Yet when I open up my mouth all that comes out is verbal drought.
Even when I start to say something kind it's you in my thoughts behind.

Then one day it finally became clear.
The reason why I could not say the words you once held dear.

I never you had a way with words.
You simply had a way with me.

Whoa, beautiful ending, though kinda sad. I like your manner of writing, it was sober to read and well written. Tyfs.
