Thank You

Thank You

A Poem by Zoey Balderston

Thank you for being there for me.

Thank you for making me stronger.

Thank you for showing me what love felt like.

Thank you for showing me what hearbreak felt like.

Thank you for helping me to stop letting people walk all over me.

Thank you for the laughs.

Thank you for the tears.

Thank you for the past few years.

I don't regret a moment of it.

I'm going to miss you.

I'm going to miss your smile.

I'm going to miss your laugh.

I'm going to miss what it felt like in your arms.

I'm going to miss the stolen kisses.

I'm going to miss the fun we had.

I'm even going to miss the fighting.

I wish things had turned out different.

I wish we hadn't given up.

I wish I knew how you were feeling.

I wish I knew what you were thinking.

I wish I could see you now.

But I blew it,

so i can't.

I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused.

I'm sorry I let you down.

I'm sorry for every mean thing I ever said.

I love you.

And even if you forget about me,

I will never forget you.

Author's Note

Zoey Balderston
It's so funny looking back from the perspective of an adult at poetry you wrote as a preteen/teenager. When you're young all your feelings are so much bigger than when you're an adult. Everything feels so much more dramatic. I'm not even sure I know anymore who this was written about so oops sorry guess the last line was a lie.

This has the sound and rhythm of a sunset's verse - the ones a person writes as they sit in the evenings light watching the world fade-to-black.
